Vérité is French for “truth.” It’s also stage name of a very talented singer-songwriter from New York, Kelsey Regina Byrne. Currently on tour in support of X Ambassadors, Vérité made her first appearance in Indianapolis last Sunday at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre.

The 29-year-old from Brooklyn was poised and confident as she took the stage. Her voice was sweet and breathy, and the sound and vibe were alt-pop/electropop. Vérité’s lyrics and body language, however, were anything but fluffy. And although she sang of loss, love, conflict, and betrayal, it wasn’t from an angst-y perspective, but rather, from a strong woman who is learning and growing as she finds her place in the world.

Vérité’s set included songs from her newly released sophomore album, “New Skin,” as well as tunes from her earlier works, along with a kick-ass cover of The 1975’s “Someone Else.” All songs were well-received by the crowd, as was the news that Vérité will be returning to the Midwest (Chicago, anyway) in 2020. She is currently on tour in support of X Ambassadors on their “Orion” tour.
