Badflower at TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park on 07/28/23

Indianapolis, Indiana

Photos and Review by Laura Fox (LLFoxphotos)

Even though I just saw Badflower at Old National Centre in May, I was super excited to see them again at the TCU Amphitheater at White River State Park Friday night. I literally can't get enough of these guys.

I wasn't alone, either; a whole bunch of people at the front of the barricade were there specifically to see Badflower, and they stood shoulder to shoulder in the sweltering heat waiting to see Josh Katz, Joey Morrow, Alex Espritu and Tony Sonetti sing and play their hearts out to the waiting crowd. Many of them, like myself, had seen every single local Badflower performance since 2017, and it was fun comparing notes with them.

I was highly amused by the band's choice of "Barbie Girl" by Aqua for their intro music; not only is pink the band's signature color on this tour, but also the "Barbie" Movie was just released. It was also a twisted way to lead into the opening song, "Don't Hate Me," which is a heartbreaking song about insecurity and longing.

Throughout the eight-song set, the band gave it their all despite the oppressive weather. I always love watching Josh's and Tony's expressions, as well as Alex's exuberant dancing. Joey's face was hidden behind his hair, as usual, but you could see his fingers flying on the guitar.

Badflower will be on tour with Incubus through September 23, then they're playing a couple of festivals. For more info, here's a link to their website:
