Industrial music pioneers Ministry put on a killer show at Ruoff Music Center on August 31, 2024 in support of Rob Zombie and Alice Cooper. It was my first time seeing Ministry, and I was really looking forward to it. No less than four different people had predicted I would love their set, and they were all correct about that!
Led by unapologetically outspoken founder Al Jourgensen, Ministry consists of Cesar Soto and Monte Pittman on guitars, Paul D'Amour on bass, John Bechdel on keyboard, and Pepe Clarke Magaña on drums.
All the members of Ministry are fantastic musicians, (one of my friends called them "musician's musicians") and Jourgensen is the consummate frontman. His facial expressions, crowd interaction, body language, intense stare and dramatic pauses made the audience FEEL his passion. He alternated between his angry self and his happy self, keeping the energy high throughout the entire show.
Ministry played an intense, 8-song set that featured classic tunes as well as releases from their newest album, HOPIUMFORTHEMASSES. You may or may not you agree with all of Ministry's views, but if you enjoy aggressive, powerful music performed exceptionally well, you will appreciate Ministry.
