INDIANAPOLIS

Photos and review by Mike Bowen

My daughter, currently in Florida, discovered The Elovaters somewhere along the way. She recently demonstrated her love for the band by pulling the Red Rocks trigger and seeing them in that musical Mecca.

When I heard they were coming here to Indy,  I encouraged her to share her enthusiasm with me. Unfortunately, five dogs, jobs and “all the things” got in the way and she wasn’t able to make it up.

I volunteered to shoot the show in her stead and to see what it was all about. Turns out I raised my daughter with terrific musical taste. It is no surprise.

I read a few short reviews and listened to one song in the days just before the show. Jack Johnson, DMB and Sublime were mentioned frequently. Reggae also came up a lot. The Elovaters song I listened to was very Jack Johnson-ny, and Reggae seemed like a stretch. Now, having enjoyed an entire set, I understand them all.

The band hails from Massachusetts and pays homage to their roots in some

of their merch, particularly a Red Sox-style jersey. They otherwise seem very Caribbean in nature. Calm, chill and island vibes throughout.

Their fans were all thrilled to be there. No one showed up to hear random music on a Thursday night. They all came to see THIS band, and the swag and interaction was overwhelming. Investigating their tour schedule, I discovered a Midwest date is rare, and many of the fans had come quite some way to visit them in Indy. A lot from surrounding states, and I even heard a Denver shout out.

The Elovaters fans were some of the nicest I have ever encountered. Generous and understanding of this old man with a camera in the front row. A fanbase befitting this band who did not disappoint.

The Elovaters' music all seemed familiar, although I had never heard it. It was performed with precision and passion which spoke to the crowd. The camaraderie was impressive, and then, the beach balls came out!! It was happy music with "that sitting by the beach" vibe.

All in all, it was a terrific experience and interaction between a band and the fans who love them.

My daughter has made her dad proud. Thx Tori. Love you!!

Awesome great blog and photos. If you can take the photo of the guy with the Elovaters flag down that would be great. He assaulted me at a show in Chicago. He shows up to the Elovaters and I’m just grossed out that he was called out after he groped me but still shows his face.
