Very few musicians can claim they’ve been doing the same gig for 47 years, but it’s true for Doug Gray, frontman and only remining founding member of the Marshall Tucker band. Touring in support of Lynyrd Skynyrd’s Farewell Tour, the Marshall Tucker band could arguably be called one of the first mainstream country crossover acts. Although his vocals sounded a bit strained, Gray made up for it with his engaging smile, playful interaction with the audience and southern charm. Opening with their smash hit “Heard it in a Love Song,” and concluding with “Can’t You See,” the band’s five-song set was relatively short, but sweet. With clean solos, as well as jams and audience sing-alongs, the six-piece band of talented musicians put the crowd at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center in a laid-back, down-home frame of mind.
