Bear Hands The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Indianapolis 11 09 19

If you’re into the alt-rock scene at all, you already know who Bear Hands are. If you’re not, you owe it to yourself to check them out. These guys from Brooklyn put on an outstanding show in support of X Ambassadors at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre last Saturday night. They opened with the catchy, synth-y “ Back Seat Driver (Spirit Guide), and played a musically diverse 11-song set that alternated between songs from their latest album, “Fake Tunes,” and their older

X Ambassadors Shine Brightly on Orion Tour The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Indianapolis 11

You know how movies are sometime described as “The Feel-Good Hit of the Year?” That’s exactly how I felt about X Ambassadors’ performance at Old National Centre last weekend. It wasn’t one thing in particular; it was the combination of great musicianship, relatable lyrics, and a whole bunch of people doing and sharing something they love. There was no moshing, surfing, or middle fingers in the air, but there was tremendous energy and an abundance of positive vibes from X Amba

    Illenium Takes Indianapolis

Illenium comes to town and shakes it up! Wow what an event. It some ways this show was suited for an arena size venue. Deep grooves, melodic harmonies, monstrous guitars, extraordinary bass lines, fantastic singing. Personally I cant think of a better concert event than that. I was very impressed with Annika Wells. What a voice and what a stage presence. And as you can see the chemistry between Trevor Christensen and Annika was palpable and honestly refreshing, It's not often

    Liily Old National Centre

After watching several videos and a documentary from Liily I almost felt like I knew them personally. On Tuesday night the band came on stage and you could feel that they were different than other up and coming bands. They had a stage presence of that of a much more established band. The lead singer Dylan Nash stood at the edge of the stage and glared out at the crowd. The fans screamed back up at him. He continued to stand there feeling the crowd out before he began to sing

Asking Alexandria at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park 08 21 19

Despite technical difficulties that forced them to stop short in the middle of a song, Asking Alexandria performed a killer set in support of Papa Roach in Indianapolis on 08 21 19. They came on strong, opening with The Violence, and ended with a bang with Alone in a Room. Frontman Danny Wornop, along with the rest of the band, showed tremendous energy and passion throughout the set, and I was impressed with the way they kept their composure even when things went awry. #askin

KoRn, Alice in Chains, Underoath, FEVER 333 pack the house at Ruoff Home Mortgage Center

A sold-out pavilion and packed lawn on August 20, 2019, indicated that rock & roll is not dead in Indiana! Fans turned out in droves to see KoRn, Alice in Chains, Underoath, and FEVER 333 at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. The lineup was an interesting combination of relatively different styles of rock with somewhat different fan bases, but it all worked well together. Rapcore openers FEVER 333 started the evening with a dramatic and incredibly high energy performance. Le

Sevendust at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River Park, Indianapolis

Atlanta-based Sevendust, who is currently on the road with Skillet on their Victorious War tour, put on a fantastic show for an enthusiastic crowd last weekend in Indianapolis. It was my first time seeing Sevendust live, despite the fact that they’ve been making music and touring for the past 20 years. I have to say these guys were awesome, and I kinda wish I had seen them sooner! They were fun to watch, and lead singer Lajon Witherspoon connected with the audience in a hea

Pop Evil Wakes Lions at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River

I have a confession to make before I start this review: I’ve been a huge Pop Evil fan for years, and they were the first band I ever photographed from the photo pit. They’re also (mostly) from Michigan, my home state, so I definitely have a soft spot for them. That being said, I don’t think I’m being biased when I say they absolutely slayed last weekend at their show in support of Skillet and Sevendust. Pop Evil opened with the fast-paced, kick-ass hit, Boss’s Daughter. Dru

    Behemoth Kicks Off Knotfest

Behemoth brought there extreme metal cargo onto the Ruoff Home Mortgage Stage Friday evening. Dazzling a frantic crowd with European black metal. The night just started as two more European bands were set to take the stage following Behemoth. Gojira and Volbeat were next in line. Then of course Slipknot closed the evening. This was a great opportunity to catch a few live acts that don't often make it onto major American stages. And they were highlighted with great efficiency

Slipknot Spiders Scary Things Knotfest 2019

Best to describe a Slipknot concert as a visual extravaganza! There is no lone star at this event. There a multiple talents traversing the stage. Highlighting an overwhelming sensory experience. Without a doubt I enjoy watching Mick Thomson work the stage or shall I say command the stage. He's uses his guitar wizardry to entrance the audience. Maybe it's the fact that I met #7 at NAMM a couple years back and as far as I could tell he ruled the room with merely his presence. C

    Judah and the Lion Indianapolis

This was my 2nd time to see Judah and the Lion. I first saw them a few years ago when they opened up for Twenty One Pilots. The energy brought to the stage back then made me an instant fan. I had heard their song Suit and Jacket on Alt Nation but had no idea what to expect with a live show. Just as before they did not fail to put on an amazing show Friday night at Farm Bureau Lawn. You cannot help but jump around as they sing. They sang Say it Ain’t so by Blink 182 and had th

Folds & Femmes Bring Suburb Rock To The City

Pop music phenomenons in their respective decades of airwave dominance, both Violent Femmes and Ben Folds displayed their musical liveliness on Saturday night with two enthusiastic setlists. With each band touring in support of two very different July releases, the Femmes jumpstarted their performance with “Adam Was A Man” - a tongue-in-cheek ode to the horror, delight, and demise of Adam and Eve from their latest studio album Hotel Last Resort. It wasn’t long before they

The Doobie Brothers Rock Down the Highway to Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center 08 09 19

If you grew up in the 60s/70s, you were a fan of The Doobie Brothers. I mean, everybody loved The Doobies. The harmonies, the hooks, and the rich sounds made them immensely popular among country, rock and pop fans. As much as I loved The Doobie Brothers myself, I never had a chance to see them live until Friday night when they opened for Santana at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. They opened their set with the 1972 hit, Rockin’ Down the Highway, which got the crowd cheeri

Santana Supernatural Now Tour Performance Blows This Reporter’s Mind 08/09/19 at Ruoff Home Mortgage

I’ve always loved live music, and I’ve been to a fair number of concerts, especially in the past couple of years. I can honestly say Friday’s Santana show at the Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center was one of the best shows I have ever been to. The musicianship, the lights, the energy, the camaraderie among the band, and the incredible music all combined to make an absolutely amazing experience. After a stellar set by The Doobie Brothers, Santana opened with Soul Sacrifice, a s

I Prevail, The Trauma Tour - The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre 08 08 19

There’s always a special place in my heart for bands from my home state, Michigan, especially Detroit-based I Prevail. I started following their progress after interviewing them and watching them absolutely kill it at the Northern Invasion Festival in 2017. The band, which has been described as metalcore, punk, and post-metalcore, went from relative obscurity to YouTube stars in 2016 with their cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space. But that particular tune was left off the set

Justin Stone - The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre 08 08 19

Spotify sensation Justin Stone showed no weakness – or fear – when he opened for I Prevail at the packed Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Thursday night. The Columbus, Ohio, native performed an intense, gritty, and slightly sinister set of rap/rock songs with a blue-collar vibe the crowd could relate to. He made a point of talking directly to the audience between every song, commanding their attention and getting them pumped up for the rest of the show. He ended his set b

Hyro the Hero at Rockstar Energy DISRUPT

Hyro the Hero opened the Rockstar Energy DISRUPT Festival at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center with a high-powered, kick-ass show that definitely woke up the audience. I’m not sure how he mustered so much energy so early in the day, but it was one of the most intense, athletic performances I’ve ever seen. I’m not talking about a few jumps and some dancing, either – he lunged, twirled, and stomped across the stage, scrambled up the lighting stands, and leaped over the heads of

Hooked On Moe. Blues Traveler. G. Love All Roads Runaround Tour

Back in the mid 90's I was traveling at break neck speed to make it to a local amphitheater to see Blues Traveler. My whole life, as it seemed, hinged on making it to Deer Creek Music Theatre to see The Black Crowes and Blues Traveler. There was a terrible thunderstorm that night but it would not deter me from this show. At the time I was blown away by this bill of two herculean acts. These bands were in their prime and playing seemingly endless hits that night. My recollect

The Realization of The Flaming Lips

Mad Scientist, Sage, Guru, Ring Master, Genius, Rocketeer, Jester.... These are few adjectives that can describe Wayne Coyne. One of the greatest rock shows you can see is a Flaming Lips concert. The energy and artistry that is presented each night is luminous. And Wayne Coyne's endearing and thought provoking demeaner is something that you don't see often on the big stage. When it's a said and done I'll let the Flaming Lips summarize how I feel about them with their "Do You
