Asking Alexandria is a band I didn't really follow until the first time I saw them live. There was something about their energy and stage presence that drew me in, and now I'm hooked.
Their show in support of Chevelle in Indianapolis was everything I expected it to be: loud, angsty, energetic, and a helluva lot of fun.

Lead vocalist Danny Worsnop smiled more during this gig than any other time I've seen Asking Alexandria live. Which is not to say the music wasn't serious, because it was. But when the frontman is having a good time, the audience has a good time, as well.

Worsnop and his bandmates, James Cassells on drums, Cameron Liddell on lead guitar, and Sam Bettley on bass, were joined onstage by touring guitarist/vocalist Paul Bartolome. The group was cohesive and truly seemed to be enjoying the night.

Asking Alexandria's 9-song set included popular tunes you'd expect, such as "Into the Fire" and "Alone in a Room," along with their latest release, "Dark Void." The heavier songs, along with some encouragement by the band, resulted in moshing and crowd surfing.

I love how these guys are close enough to goof like this in front of thousands of fans! Lidell's and Worsnop's body language say volumes about the exchange they had.
There were quieter moments, as well, with Worsnop getting face-to-face with fans, and even breaking out the acoustic guitar. I know not everyone is excited about Worsnop's solo country-music venture and conversion to Christianity, but I honestly don't think it affected the "metalness" of his performance. And if the guy's happier because of it, more power to him.

Asking Alexandria will be out on tour with Chevelle and Dead Poet Society through the beginning of October. You'll also be able to catch them at the When We Were Young Festival in Las Vegas October 18.
