After absolutely thrilling sets by Dead Poet Society and Asking Alexandria, fans at the Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park were more than ready for post-grunge veterans, Chevelle, to take the stage. Unfortunately, the wait was a little longer than anticipated due to some kind of technical issue. But the crowd waited out the delay patiently, with Security helping by passing out paper cups of water to grateful fans near the barrier.

When the show started, any previous impatience was instantly forgotten. First to take the stage was percussionist Sam Loeffler, followed by vocalist/guitarist Pete Loeffler and bassist Kemble Walters.

The audience instantly recognized the opening notes of Chevelle’s “Family System” and reacted with fists in the air and loud cheers. The tune was a great choice for starting the set; the dark intensity of the 2017 release set the tone for a fantastic set that spanned Chevelle’s 30-year history. Of particular note were the songs from their new album, Bright as Blasphemy, which happened to drop at midnight that night.

I’ve been lucky enough to catch Chevelle live several times, and I can say this was, without a doubt, the best performance I've seen from them yet. The band played all 18 songs in the set as though it would be their last performance together. Pete poured his soul into his vocals and guitar, Sam punished his drum kit, and Kemble played bass like a man possessed.
The production was great, too. In addition to perfectly timed lights, multiple screens played dramatic scenes, images, and text, amplifying the dark mood of the set. It was extremely effective.

Pete didn't do a lot of talking during Chevelle’s set, but the audience wasn’t there to chat, so it was fine. He did apologize for starting late, explaining it was only the fifth stop on the tour and that stuff was bound to get “messed" up sometimes.
The set ended with “Mars Simula” from the 2021 album, NIRATIAS. I was impressed the band had any energy left, much less enough to pull of this banger! Well done, Chevelle, well done.

Chevelle will continue on their tour through the end of September 2025, concluding with a performace at Aftershock festival on October 4. For more details, click here:
