The Doobie Brothers Rock Down the Highway to Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center 08 09 19
If you grew up in the 60s/70s, you were a fan of The Doobie Brothers. I mean, everybody loved The Doobies. The harmonies, the hooks, and the rich sounds made them immensely popular among country, rock and pop fans. As much as I loved The Doobie Brothers myself, I never had a chance to see them live until Friday night when they opened for Santana at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. They opened their set with the 1972 hit, Rockin’ Down the Highway, which got the crowd cheeri

Hooked On Moe. Blues Traveler. G. Love All Roads Runaround Tour
Back in the mid 90's I was traveling at break neck speed to make it to a local amphitheater to see Blues Traveler. My whole life, as it seemed, hinged on making it to Deer Creek Music Theatre to see The Black Crowes and Blues Traveler. There was a terrible thunderstorm that night but it would not deter me from this show. At the time I was blown away by this bill of two herculean acts. These bands were in their prime and playing seemingly endless hits that night. My recollect

The Realization of The Flaming Lips
Mad Scientist, Sage, Guru, Ring Master, Genius, Rocketeer, Jester.... These are few adjectives that can describe Wayne Coyne. One of the greatest rock shows you can see is a Flaming Lips concert. The energy and artistry that is presented each night is luminous. And Wayne Coyne's endearing and thought provoking demeaner is something that you don't see often on the big stage. When it's a said and done I'll let the Flaming Lips summarize how I feel about them with their "Do You

Young The Giant, Fitz And The Tantrums and COIN
Sunday, June 16, Young the Giant, touring with Fitz and the Tantrums, and COIN followed through with a re-located Father's Day concert in Indianapolis. The concert was originally scheduled at the Farm Bureau Lawn at the White River downtown Indianapolis, nestled between the Indianapolis Zoo and the MLB Pirates farm team, the Indianapolis Indians. Due to the threat of weather, the concert was moved north of Indianapolis to Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center, Indiana's premiere

REO Speedwagon Keeps Pushin’ at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River State Park 06 11 19
If you had told 17-year-old me that one day the members of REO Speedwagon would be playing just a few feet away from me, I would have freaked right out. I mean, we’re talking about one of the most popular and prolific bands from my high-school and college days; the guys whose songs got me through more than one break-up, and whose lyrics we used to belt out at the tops of our lungs whenever they came on the radio. But it happened last night, and it made me ridiculously happy

The Aces: Bunbury 2019
Drawing a surprisingly large crowd for their late-afternoon set time, Utah-based The Aces brought fabulous feminine energy to the main stage at Bunbury on Sunday. Bunbury was the first festival the pop four-piece played this year, but certainly not the last, as they’re slated to hop around to Mamby on the Beach, Austin City Limits, Life Is Beautiful, and more. The ladies of The Aces spent most of last Spring touring the U.S to promote their debut studio album, When my Heart F

Flora Cash – Bunbury 2019
As soon as Flora Cash took the stage the crowd was screaming in excitement. The first song had some slight technical difficulties with sound being a little too low. A few fans were screaming “turn up your mics!” after the song ended. Everything sounded perfect for the rest of the show. The beautiful chemistry between the two singers Shpresa Lleshaj and Cole Randall is very visible in their music and how they are on stage. They even shared a very loving kiss after their 3rd so

Trauma Illinois
I sat down with Trauma Illinois via a phone interview after the festival. Things just did not line up for us to meet in person the day of their show. I had read their entire story before the Bunbury Festival and I was super excited to have a chance to speak with these three very talented individuals and learn more about them. I could tell from the moment the phone connected they were a fun bunch. They all laughed and spoke in turn. I had them all say who they were to get a fe

Taylor Janzen Bunbury Music Festival interview 2019
Taylor Janzen had just finished up smiling for the camera when I walked over to sit down with her for a quick interview. The sun was finally starting to come out from behind the clouds and it was shining brightly overhead. Our photographer Laura Fox noticed that the tree next to us would make for some good shade during the interview to keep us cool and that it would also be a much nicer background for the photos she was wanting to take of Taylor. We moved under the tree and b

The Clarks
This particular band stood out to me because their sound was unlike like anything else at the Festival. Of course all bands have their own feel and sound, but The Clarks were a bit country compared to the alt-rock bands that were taking the stage in the days prior. I am not usually a big fan of country, but their mix of an alt-country rock really got my attention. I am now a big fan of their particular sound. The lead singer Scott Blasey had a wonderful stage presence as he b

Mesmerizing Poppy Bunbury Music Festival
Poppy took the stage and all of a sudden there were very loud screams coming from all directions. You could tell from the very first song their fans were there to bring the noise! Her see-through black bodysuit contrasted perfectly with her pure white hair. The guitarists were in all black jumpsuits and had silver painted faces with sleek black hair. It was obvious they were wanting to totally rock their looks. Each of them had a way of walking across stage effortlessly and g

Sam Law Band Shines
The first time I saw Sam Law Band perform they were an opening act for the great Lou Gramm of Foreigner fame. It was an early set and there was an impending storm on the horizon. I was impressed. This band had a unique sound and very nice stage presence. After the show they were at their merchandise tent and surprised that I asked for their autograph. I love talented bands and for me I don't discriminate on whether a band is known worldwide or a local talent. Fast forward a f

Zac Clark What A Surprise
"I don't want to lose you now. I don't want to lose the chance, to love you later. Meet me when the moon gets full." Zac Clark sings these gorgeous words on his self titled album. The song Love You Later immediately caught my attention as I played the vinyl record for the first time recently. What is particularly interesting is the fact I became somewhat familiar with Zac as I photographed him at The Forecastle Music Festival a few years ago with Andrew McMahon and the Wilder

OK, I’m Sick: Badflower with Deal Casino and Fencer to Hit Hi-Fi Indy 04 26 19
It’s hard for me to write objectively about Badflower - they were the second band I ever photographed in front of the barrier, and they absolutely blew me away with their passion and energy. I mean, guitarist Joey Morrow played so hard he snapped the neck of his guitar! I instantly became a fan, and I’ve been following them ever since. Their rise from relative obscurity to the top of the charts has been rapid since they released their first full-length album, OK, I’m Sick, on
