Bear Hands The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Indianapolis 11 09 19

If you’re into the alt-rock scene at all, you already know who Bear Hands are. If you’re not, you owe it to yourself to check them out. These guys from Brooklyn put on an outstanding show in support of X Ambassadors at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre last Saturday night. They opened with the catchy, synth-y “ Back Seat Driver (Spirit Guide), and played a musically diverse 11-song set that alternated between songs from their latest album, “Fake Tunes,” and their older

Motionless in White Slays Final 2019 Trick or Treat Tour Stop in Indy with We Came as Romans, After

The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Halloween is my favorite holiday, and Motionless in White (MIW) is one of my favorite bands to see live, so I was really psyched when I found out their Trick or Treat Tour was coming to Indy. I (as well over 1,000 other people who packed into the Egyptian Room) expected – and got – an incredible show! Detroit’s Twiztid got the night off to a great start with an angry, in-your-face set. Although their style of music is vastly different

    Liily Old National Centre

After watching several videos and a documentary from Liily I almost felt like I knew them personally. On Tuesday night the band came on stage and you could feel that they were different than other up and coming bands. They had a stage presence of that of a much more established band. The lead singer Dylan Nash stood at the edge of the stage and glared out at the crowd. The fans screamed back up at him. He continued to stand there feeling the crowd out before he began to sing

Skillet Cooks Up Heavy Christian Rock at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River Park, Indianapoli

Christian rockers Skillet are known for their high-energy, passionate live performances, and their fans are known for their fierce loyalty. Last weekend I got to experience a Skillet concert for the first time, and I completely understand what the hype is all about. Their show was a first-rate production, complete with pyro, smoke, cannons, vivid graphics, and, of course, great music. Here are the highlights of their 14-song, powerful set: Lead singer John Cooper had a gr

Sevendust at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River Park, Indianapolis

Atlanta-based Sevendust, who is currently on the road with Skillet on their Victorious War tour, put on a fantastic show for an enthusiastic crowd last weekend in Indianapolis. It was my first time seeing Sevendust live, despite the fact that they’ve been making music and touring for the past 20 years. I have to say these guys were awesome, and I kinda wish I had seen them sooner! They were fun to watch, and lead singer Lajon Witherspoon connected with the audience in a hea

Pop Evil Wakes Lions at Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at White River

I have a confession to make before I start this review: I’ve been a huge Pop Evil fan for years, and they were the first band I ever photographed from the photo pit. They’re also (mostly) from Michigan, my home state, so I definitely have a soft spot for them. That being said, I don’t think I’m being biased when I say they absolutely slayed last weekend at their show in support of Skillet and Sevendust. Pop Evil opened with the fast-paced, kick-ass hit, Boss’s Daughter. Dru

    Flora Cash In Review

The first time I heard Flora Cash was on Apple Music. Then I was able to see them perform at Bunbury Festival earlier this summer and fell even more in love with their sound. Friday night they opened for Judah and the Lion at Farm Bureau Lawn. As always, their sound and vibe were amazing! They played a new song called You Love Me from their upcoming album. I really enjoy that they perform a lot of songs from their older albums and also songs that have not yet been released. T

    Judah and the Lion Indianapolis

This was my 2nd time to see Judah and the Lion. I first saw them a few years ago when they opened up for Twenty One Pilots. The energy brought to the stage back then made me an instant fan. I had heard their song Suit and Jacket on Alt Nation but had no idea what to expect with a live show. Just as before they did not fail to put on an amazing show Friday night at Farm Bureau Lawn. You cannot help but jump around as they sing. They sang Say it Ain’t so by Blink 182 and had th

I Prevail, The Trauma Tour - The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre 08 08 19

There’s always a special place in my heart for bands from my home state, Michigan, especially Detroit-based I Prevail. I started following their progress after interviewing them and watching them absolutely kill it at the Northern Invasion Festival in 2017. The band, which has been described as metalcore, punk, and post-metalcore, went from relative obscurity to YouTube stars in 2016 with their cover of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space. But that particular tune was left off the set

Justin Stone - The Egyptian Room at Old National Centre 08 08 19

Spotify sensation Justin Stone showed no weakness – or fear – when he opened for I Prevail at the packed Egyptian Room at Old National Centre Thursday night. The Columbus, Ohio, native performed an intense, gritty, and slightly sinister set of rap/rock songs with a blue-collar vibe the crowd could relate to. He made a point of talking directly to the audience between every song, commanding their attention and getting them pumped up for the rest of the show. He ended his set b

Hyro the Hero at Rockstar Energy DISRUPT

Hyro the Hero opened the Rockstar Energy DISRUPT Festival at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center with a high-powered, kick-ass show that definitely woke up the audience. I’m not sure how he mustered so much energy so early in the day, but it was one of the most intense, athletic performances I’ve ever seen. I’m not talking about a few jumps and some dancing, either – he lunged, twirled, and stomped across the stage, scrambled up the lighting stands, and leaped over the heads of

Hooked On Moe. Blues Traveler. G. Love All Roads Runaround Tour

Back in the mid 90's I was traveling at break neck speed to make it to a local amphitheater to see Blues Traveler. My whole life, as it seemed, hinged on making it to Deer Creek Music Theatre to see The Black Crowes and Blues Traveler. There was a terrible thunderstorm that night but it would not deter me from this show. At the time I was blown away by this bill of two herculean acts. These bands were in their prime and playing seemingly endless hits that night. My recollect

The Interrupters at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center - ALT 103.3 Birthday Bash July 12, 2019

Ska music has gotten kind of a bad rap for the past several years, but The Interrupters are turning that around. When they took the stage at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center for ALT 103.3’s Birthday Bash, The Interrupters’ fusion of ska and punk embraced the dynamism, simplicity, and straightforwardness of both genres in a way that was highly palatable. Somehow, even the angriest of their songs was fun and danceable. In addition, their interaction with the crowd endeared them

311 at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center ALT 103.3 Birthday Bash

Alt-rockers 311 brought plenty of loud, infectious energy to Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center for Alt 103.3’s Birthday Bash, and the crowd ate it up. Currently on a co-headlining tour with Dirty Heads, 311 have been together for 29 years, and they know how to entertain. They came out rocking with 1994’s Homebrew, a strong rock tune, and kept the audience on their feet through the entire 15-song setlist. Along with classics such as Beautiful Disaster and All Shook Up, 311 play

Dreamers at Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center ALT 103.3 Birthday Bash July 12, 2019

Dreamers, an LA-based trio, was the second act to take the stage at ALT 103.3’s Birthday Bash Ruoff Home Mortgage Music Center. Currently on tour in support of 311 and Dirty Heads, Dreamers fused together indie, rock, pop, psychedelic, and techno sounds artfully, and threw in a little dash of pop punk for fun. The synergy between vocalist Nick Wold, guitarist Jacob Wick, and bassist Marc Nelson was evident throughout Dreamers’ enthusiastic, well-rehearsed set, making for an e

    Third Eye Blind Concert Review

On Sunday, June 30 Third Eye Blind came to the Farm Bureau Insurance Lawn at the White River outdoor music venue with Jimmy Eat World and Ra Ra Riot in tow. It was a hot and dry Sunday evening in Indianapolis and attendance was high, even for the first of the three bands. Ra Ra Riot provided a fairly mellow opening act. Lead vocalist Wes Miles stood out from his bandmates putting forth visible effort in his craft, even seemingly pushing the limits of his vocal cords. Bassist

Pop Punk Lineup Thrills Fans of All Ages at The Deluxe at Old National Centre New Found Glory, Real

The Deluxe at Old National Centre in Indianapolis was hot and loud Tuesday evening – just the way it should be for a night of in-your-face pop punk. Although I’m relatively new to the scene and have only seen a handful of pop punk shows, I love the speed, energy, and charisma of this particular genre. I also love that the music appeals to disenfranchised people of all ages, giving them not only a voice but also a community. Doll Skin, the fierce, female foursome from Phoenix

Stone Temple Pilots Live Review Bunbury Music Festival

As the sun began to cast long shadows on Day One of the Bunbury Music Festival, attendees flocked to the Sawyer Point stage to catch one of the heaviest bands in the lineup, Stone Temple Pilots (STP). They came on strong, opening with Wicked Garden, and they never let up. Frontman Jeff Gutt, along with guitarist Dean DeLeo, bassist Robert DeLeo, and drummer Eric Kretz, put on a great performance – they were well-rehearsed, relaxed, and having fun onstage. These guys definitel
